What a nice surprise we had today when Drew and Ketah came by to elope! Erin Miller was able to officiate for them and we were honored to be their witnesses.

The first wedding of the season!

It couldn’t have been a more beautiful day to ring in wedding season! Our first wedding of the year was with Andrea and Jason who wed in the gazebo with their family, closest friends and their two dogs (the match makers) by their side.
It was the personal touches the couple incorporated that made their day as unique and fun as they are! Their reception was beautifully done by generous cousins and aunts who put together the most darling center pieces of wild flowers, irises, tulips and lilies all held together in mason jars that were set atop rustic wood slices. A fabulous plated dinner was served by Colorful Palette and don’t forget the baklava!!! Yiayia’s homemade baklava (to die for!) took center stage with the wedding cake from Cakes by Jane. Orange Krush rocked it and everyone danced the night away! There was traditional Greek dances and the groom even showed off his sweet break dancing skills. It was a great night and a great start to a wonderful season!

Fri the 13th at The Farm

While it is Fri the 13th and the computers are giving us fits ( but that’s not just today) It is a spectacular day here and we continue to improve The Farm property. Ron is doing what he loves, mowing. Julian is making the entrance better and the mountains continue to be spectacular with our North Carolina Blue Sky !!!!!

We just finished adding a beautiful new look at the gazebo. Take a look at this !!! Stone and grass leading up to the front of the gazebo give you a very special area where your groomsmen and bridesmaids surround you…the bride, and the man of your dreams as you come eye to eye and say those beautiful words “I DO” !!!!!

If you haven’t had a chance to come for a visit yet….you don’t want to miss out on the beautiful view of flowers, trees, mountains and gazebo ….the new rock entrance makes the whole picture absolutely spectacular!!!!

Saving Money –and weddings, Really?

Those two things, weddings and saving money don’t usually come out of someones mouth in the same conversation….well, maybe, but it is usually if they are saying ” I am going to have to really save up some money to have the wedding I want”.

So here’s the deal, you really can save money and still have the wedding you want, but you have to be smart and not think you have to implement all the ideas you read about on blogs and in magazines or even that you hear about that just sound “so adorable that I really need to do that”! NO YOU DON’T have to….Just because someone thought it would be really sweet to give a gift to each person who came to their wedding….who knows how long ago…. certainly not 43 years ago unless I was living under a rock….well, maybe since I was in school, ok so maybe I was under a rock!!!! Never mind!! I don’t remember hearing or going to a wedding and receiving a silver tray with the bride and grooms initials engraved on it….that come quite a few years later. Have you ever, I mean ever, been excited to get the giveaway gift from a wedding? When my oldest daughter got married I was going to be the best hostess ever and do all the things right for her wedding…..so I started reading up on the sweet things people were doing as “thank you for coming to our daughters wedding”… I came up with this great idea: When our daughter was born her announcement was a “seed packet” with her picture on the front and a cleverly written planting and care instruction on the back!!!! so 25 years later of course for her wedding she needed another “seed packet” ( got to stay with the theme) with a picture of the baby bride and groom and their engagement picture on the front with of course the “care” and “planting instructions” again cleverly written I might add on the back. This was filled with North Carolina wild flowers and I thought everyone living in California where the wedding was taking place would be thrilled to have said seeds. Well, I guess not! I made 200 of those, spent tons of time printing the seed packets, getting it all together, making sure they were at the reception spot and I believe I counted at least over 100 left on the tables afterward.
Our friends daughter and her new husband had just graduated from dental school so of course their “give away” was none other than toothpaste and a toothbrush…..who doesn’t use those ? There were hundreds left in the basket when I left and I was just about one of the last guests to leave !!! DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY…no one wants a cozy, a silver tray or glass with both of your names on it as much as they love you it will end up at Good Will….the homemade jelly’s, cookies, bags of candy from a candy bar etc. are nice ,even the tree seeds to plant are nice but people don’t come to your wedding to receive a gift from you….all they want is to congratulate you, make sure you are really married off and have something to eat and probably more than not something to drink!!!
Just sayin, save your money and time…..you will be happy you did.

Fashion Show for Relay for Life Fund Raiser

Almost all of us have known someone who has been diagnosed with or had some form of cancer. We are pleased that we have the opportunity to host the Relay for Life fund raiser presented on March 31, 2012 5:00 – 9:00 by the Mid – Atlantic Patient Account Center. Fund Raiser

From time to time we are pleased to be able to hold Fund Raisers for either candidates or other causes. At the present we are getting ready to host a Fund Raiser for David King who is running for a seat on the Buncombe county board of commissioners. March 29, 2012 from 6:30 – 8:30 here at The Farm in Candler, NC. Please feel free to come support David. Fencing done the way it used to be done

We have added authentic hand split rail fencing to grace our property in several areas. Mostly in the parking areas and driveways to delineate those areas and to make them a little more special. While we are not an authenic farm so to speak, we do enjoy some of the those early building trends and have incorporated those in our cabins and cottages.

Our New Bar at The Farm

Our promised bar is finally done !!! and what a unique ( as usual around here) bar it is . We are sure there isn’t another one like it anywhere!!!! It comes with our building and sure to be a gathering place no matter where it is placed. Since it is on rollers, we can put it anywhere – on the porch, inside or out on the front patio!!! Sure to be a favorite!!!! We just have a knack of making unique, interesting items to add to making your event one your guests will remember.
